August 14, 1942 This thank you note to Charlotte Little Smith, Jean's
mother was sent by Bob (20) after his first meal at her parent's home.
The Smiths lived in an apartment at 93 Perry St. Brookline, MA. Living
in the home were William (Bill) and Charlotte Smith, with their two
children, Jean (who would have been 21) and her brother, Willard
(5-10-27 to 11-23-83, who would have been 15). Charlotte was a wonderful cook and invited friends to join them for
meals often. Bill, a veteran of WWI, worked for SS Pierces ( a high end specialty
food store) as the manager of the egg, butter and frozen food
department. Jean had graduated from Colby Junior College and was working at Lever Brothers as a laboratory technician. Her boss was a Mr. Maxwell, whom she must have feared. In many letters, Bob gives her advice on how to handle him. Their dog was named Prinnie. |
