Dutchie Darling, Love Bob

His daughter was almost six weeks old before he received word that she had been born. Patricia Jean Patten was born on March 6, 1945 and Bob doesn't get word of her birth until April 3rd. He sits down that very day and writes her a letter.

That letter was put in her baby book for her to read when she was old enough. I (Patty) used to take that letter out and read it often, especially when I was a teenager and so angry with him over something. Reading that letter always brings tears to my eyes, as I realize how much he truly loved me and wanted to be with me.

Soon after he learns that Patty is a girl, he buys her a doll. That doll sat on her bed all her life and in the late 1990's, Patty had the doll restored with new clothing. Only the hat is missing.
